General Rules for Taking English Courses (2022-2023)

1. English course registration is based on MUET level/band.

2. In order to meet the graduation requirements, students entering the 2022-2023 Session MUST complete the following number of English course credits:

Band MUET / Level	The amount of credit that needs to be met
Band 1.0, 2.0 and 2.5	7 credit
Band 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 and 5+	5 credit

(Refer to the English Language Course Offer Structure Session 2022-2023).

3. Students who have an IELTS, TOEFL or other English language approval certificate can register for an English language course by submitting proof of approval to the Head of English Language, PPCU.

4. The following graduate students are eligible to apply for vertical credit transfer:

1. Diploma (Polytechnics and IPTA/IPTS Colleges/Overseas Institutions); or
2. IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate).
3. Note: For vertical credit transfer applications, students need to fill in the Vertical Credit Transfer Form. Applications must be made through the Academic Management Center (Akademik-UKM).

5. Students are also eligible to apply for horizontal credit transfer if:

1. learn to have followed a bachelor’s degree program at another institution;
2. students exchange study programs at UKM; and
3. students participating in student exchange programs (mobility) abroad.
4. Note: For horizontal credit transfer applications, students need to fill in the Horizontal Credit Transfer Form. Applications must be made directly at the University Citra Study Center (PPCU).

6. Courses that can be applied for credit transfer are level one English courses namely LMCE1042, LMCE1062, LMCE1072 or LMCE1082; depending on the course to be taken (refer to English Course Offer Structure Session 2022-2023). Approval of the application is subject to PPCU’s consideration.

7. Students who apply for credit transfer MUST get a decision from the Academic Management Center (Akademik-UKM) first before registering for the English course.

8. For credit transfer applications that are not approved by Akademik-UKM, students must register for an English language course in the Semester II session

9. For approved credit transfer applications, the following are the total English course credits that need to be completed:

10. Students must take and pass the prescribed English course before registering for the next English course. Students who get an E grade have to repeat the course.

General Rules for Enrolment in English Language Courses

Registration for English courses is based on MUET (Malaysian University English Test) Bands/Level and its equivalent.
In order to fulfil graduation requirements, it is COMPULSORY for students of intake 2022-2023 to complete the required total number of credits for English courses.

The total number of credit hours of English courses to be fulfilled is as below:

Students with IELTS, TOEFL certificates, or any other English Language Certificates may register for English courses provided that a copy of the certificate is submitted as proof that they have passed the particular test to the Head of English Language Citra, PPCU.
The following students are eligible to apply for vertical credit transfer:
1. Diploma (Polytechnics and public/private/overseas institutions); or
2. Diploma IB (International Baccalaureate).

4.1 Students applying for vertical credit transfer are required to complete Borang Pemindahan Kredit Secara Menegak (Vertical Credit Transfer Application Form). The application must go through Pusat Pengurusan Akademik (Akademik-UKM).

Students are eligible to apply for linear credit transfer if they:
1. hold a Bachelor’s Degree from other institutions;
2. switched study programs in UKM; and

iii) have completed any student exchange program (mobility) overseas.

5.1 For linear credit transfer, students are required to complete Borang Pemindahan Kredit Secara Mendatar (Linear Credit Transfer Application Form). The application can be done directly to Pusat Pengajian Citra Universiti – PPCU (School of Liberal Studies).

Students can apply for credit transfer for Level One English Language courses only i.e. LMCE1042, LMCE1062, LMCE1072, or LMCE1082 depending on the applicant’s English qualifications. ( Please refer to English Language Courses Structure Session 2022-2023).
Students applying for credit transfer MUST obtain approval from Pusat Pengurusan Akademik (Akademik-UKM) before registering for English Language courses.
For applications not approved by Akademik- UKM, students have to register for the required English language course in Semester II of the study session.
For an approved application, refer to the table below for the total number of credits for English language courses:

Students are required to take and pass each level of English language courses before registering for the courses at the next level. Students with grade E MUST repeat the course.

General Rules for Taking English Courses (2021-2022)

1. Students entering the 2021-2022 Session MUST complete a total of English language course credits to meet the graduation requirements as follows:
i) 7 credits (MUET level 1, 2.0 and 2.5)
ii)5 credits (MUET level 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 and 5+)
(Refer to the Structure of English Course Offerings Session 2021-2022).

2. Students who have not sat the MUET Test must sit the CBET Interim test before being allowed to register for any appropriate English language course. Students can contact the Head of English Citra, University Citra Study Center (PPCU) via email, mazidah@ukm.edu.my.

3. Students who have passed IELTS, TOEFL or other English language passing certificates can register for English courses by submitting proof of passing to the Head of English Language Citra, PPCU.

4. Students who have not sat the MUET Test and have not obtained the equivalent exam results (TOEFL/IELTS or other passing certificates), can only register for English language courses after sitting the CBET Interim test.

5. The following graduate students are eligible to apply for vertical credit transfer:

i) Diploma (Polytechnics and IPTA/IPTS Colleges/Overseas Institutions); or
ii)IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate).
For vertical credit transfer applications, students need to fill in the Vertical Credit Transfer Form. Applications must be made through the Academic Management Center (Akademik-UKM).

7. Courses that can be applied for credit transfer are first-year English courses only, namely LMCE1042, LMCE1062, LMCE1072 or LMCE1082; depending on the course to be taken (refer to English Course Offer Structure Session 2021-2022). Approval of the application is subject to PPCU’s consideration.

8. Students who apply for credit transfer MUST get confirmation from the Academic Management Center (Akademik-UKM) first.

9. For credit transfer applications that are not approved by Akademik- UKM, students must register for an English language course in the Semester II session

10. For approved applications, students only need to complete:
